On Thursday, at Reliance Industries‘ 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Mukesh Ambani announced JioPhone Next. Last year, Mukesh Ambani and Google’s Sundar Pichai announced a partnership between Reliance Jio and Google. To attract the masses, it offers an optimized Android experience on top of entry-level hardware.
As well as access to the Google Play store, the JioPhone Next offers voice assistant, automatic reading of screen text, and language translation features, among others. Ambani, who was speaking at the Reliance Annual General Meeting, said, “Because even the most basic 4G smartphone is unaffordable for these users, India still has nearly 300 million mobile users who are stuck with inefficient and expensive 2G services. Google and Jio co-developing a next-generation, feature-rich, but extremely affordable smartphone had been discussed by Sundar and me last year…” Ganesh Chaturthi falls on September 10. The phone’s features have been revealed. Only that it will be “the most affordable smartphone not just in India, but globally” has been revealed so far.

Specifications of the JioPhone Next
Users of the JioPhone Next who want to upgrade from 2G to 4G connectivity and get a smartphone at a reasonable price will find it appealing. According to Google, Jio’s new offering is based on a custom version of Android specifically designed for it.
It comes preloaded with reading Aloud and Translate Now features that are available across the entire operating system. This feature reads on-screen text aloud when a user clicks on the Listen button. When it comes to translating, Translate Now is a great option.
JioPhone Next comes preinstalled with Jio apps that are voice-activated using Google Assistant. In addition, JioSaavn and MyJio can be accessed via Google Assistant.
Also included on the JioPhone Next is a rear-facing camera with an LED flash. As a bonus, the camera comes preloaded with HDR mode. To make Snapchat Lenses available in India, Google partnered with Snap.
JioPhone Next will be able to run the latest Android versions and security updates, according to Google. In addition, Google Play Store and Google Play Protect are also preinstalled on the phone.
According to Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, “JioPhone Next is powered by an extremely optimized version of the Android operating system that Jio and Google have jointly developed for the Indian market.” Thus, we are witnessing the collaboration of an international giant in the technology sector and an Indian national technology champion in developing an innovative new product that will be introduced to the Indian market first and then exported to other countries.
Google invested Rs. Thirty-three thousand seven hundred thirty-seven crores in Jio Platforms in July of last year. It was part of Google’s India Digitisation Fund.
For the first time, Jio is offering its handset to consumers. The Jio Phone, an innovative feature phone with 4G connectivity, was introduced by the telco in July 2017. The Jio Phone 2 was launched in 2018 as an update to that model. QWERTY keyboard and wider screen are two of the upgrades.
