Foldable Smartphones – Gboard Beta Introduces A Split Keyboard Layout
Due to recent updates, Gboard now includes a new split keyboard for foldable smartphones.
For the past few months, we’ve been following Google’s development of a split keyboard for Gboard. A feature that was designed for foldable smartphones. Like the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Currently, Google has begun turning on a split keyboard within Gboard over the past few hours. Users in the r/GalaxyFold subreddit first noticed the rollout earlier today, and we have since verified it on our own Galaxy Z Fold 3 device. The feature is accessible on several Folds, according to Android Central’s writers.
More users are now being added to Google’s beta testing program. Particularly owners of foldable smartphones from the Samsung Galaxy Z series. With the Gboard beta version 11.9.04. But not everyone appears to have access to it.
According to reports, several users using Gboard version 11.9.04 have not yet received the split keyboard feature, indicating that Google is still testing it and that a wider audience may only be able to access it in the future. To test out the feature on your foldable. To begin, you must sign up for the beta program.
The lack of a split keyboard on Samsung’s foldable smartphones is not a particularly noteworthy omission. Gboard already has a split keyboard compared to other apps, but Samsung’s stock keyboard app does not, so the addition of the split keyboard would improve their typing experience.
By clicking a button in the Gboard’s toolbar, users could switch to the split keyboard layout, which would divide the keyboard into two sections to fit the two halves of the screen. Additionally, a different button would take the place of the toolbar button, reversing the layout to its original state.
In our brief testing, Gboard consistently remembers your preferences and operates normally on the Fold 3’s outer screen.
With this rollout, there are a few things to keep in mind. First and foremost, only the most recent Gboard beta version (v11.9.04) is experiencing this. The modification appears to be the result of a server-side switch rather than a Google Play Store update.
You might not see the option right away if you use a Galaxy Z Fold 3 or another foldable device. But it will likely become available to more users over the next few days.
It’s not yet clear when this will be available on Android tablets
